"The Promise of Near-infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) for Studies of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience" Noon, 11th Floor CHGD Commons North Ingalls Building RICHARD N. ASLIN William R. Kenan Professor, Brain & Cognitive Sciences and Center for Visual Science Director, Rochester Center for Brain Imaging University of Rochester Over the past decade, NIRS has become an intriguing tool for studying the neural correlates of perception, cognition, and language processing in human infants. The pros and cons of NIRS compared to fMRI, MEG, and EEG will be discussed, highlighting the methodological challenges facing its use with infants and toddlers. A sober examination of the value-added of NIRS over behavioral measures will be provided.
