Welcome to the Strengths-based Adoptive Family Project! We are glad you are visiting our website. We know that adoptive families reflect diverse backgrounds and experiences, and our goal is to promote a strengths-based view of adoption that supports the local adoption community and the resources available for families and professionals. The Strengths-based Adoptive Family Project aims to understand the experiences of adoptive families, to provide resources and training for adoption service providers, and to focus on promoting the many strengths represented in the adoptive family community.
Our Family Stories Project has studied the experiences of internationally adoptive families with young children. The participating families shared their time and experience in order to help increase understanding of how early adoption conversations begin, and the experience of adoption for parents and children during early childhood. We will be visiting with these families again now that their children are in elementary school to learn more about how their experiences have unfolded over time.
The Inquisitive Minds Workshop is an 8-week parent workshop that is designed to support parents of preschoolers as they begin the process of engaging in a dialogue with their child that is responsive to his/her questions about adoption. We are currently raising funds to make the Inquisitive Minds Workshop available to a greater number of families by training adoption professionals across the state to run the curriculum.
